I had to add these to the share to get that working properly. I've
probably added some stuff that's not needed, but it worked, so I left
it. I think the oplocks setting is key though.
create mask = 0777
force create mode = 0777
oplocks = no
force directory security mode = 0777
Where and what should I look for to determine users last login?
Thanks.

/var/log/samba/log.(username)
I only have logs that correspond to machine names, not user names. I
assume these will work. Is there a certain call or something to grep for?

Usually you can just log the clients in the first time, map a network
drive letter to the share's they want, and check the remember password,
and reconnect at logon options.
That'll do what you want.
The default login name for network shares is the workstation user name.

I have a winxp slowdown problem which seems to go away when I turn
iptables off. My situation is different, but it's a worth a shot just to
see. I get a 20 sec directory listing delay with WinXP only, Win2k is
fine, and it only happens intermittantly.

Sorry if this has been covered before.
I setup a new Samba server using RedHat EL 3, and samba 3.0.2-6.3E (the

We were seeing an intermittant 20 seconcd delay when grabbing a

Are there settings I need to add to get Quickbooks multiuser to work on a Samba
fileserver?
The Quickbooks data resides on a RedHat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.1a. The
clients are Quickbooks 2000 pro; one is one client win98 and two are win2k. It
works fine as long as only one person is accessing
I have a about ten Win2k machines connecting to a Linux Samba 2.2.1a file
server.
There are ten users each with their own home directory. Additionaly there is a
'Public' share and a 'Accounting' share.
One of the Win2K machines is set to backup these mounted shares using a simple
shell script

Randy,
You will need to add use client driver = yes to the smb.conf file, or
install.
I added 'use client driver = yes ' to the printers section of smb.conf. It
didn't seem to help.
Any other ideas?
