Compile samba with --with-utmp, and then in your smb.conf, enter "utmp =
yes". This should be all that's needed with RedHat.

The smbpasswd file is used when encrypt passwords = yes is used. AFAIK, if
you want to authenticate against /etc/passwd, you need to use plain text
passwords. A registry hack will be needed on your Windows clients. A google
search will clear up the details on that.

Look, I know this must be beaten to death,
If its a 2k or XP workstation, disabling roaming profiles at the
workstation is easy. I'd like to disable roaming profiles at the
server though, does anyone know how to do that?

Hey all,
I've got a few WinXP workstations logging into a 2.2.4pre (CVS from April
30th, around 8 p.m. PDT) PDC, and I'm having some sort of odd problem with
roaming profiles.
The XP workstations can successfully (it seems) retrieve and save thier
profiles to the samba box; however, if I log of
