Since upgrading to Fedora Core 3 the jobname for the files being printed to
our PDF CUPS backend have become the Samba jobname as in
SMBPRN.888009.hjdcl instead of the application filename such as Microsoft
Word - Document1.DOC. This stops us from providing a properly-named PDF
file to our users.
In tracking down several odd things that are happening in our RedHat 7.3
Samba 2.2.8 environment I found that the users are only authenticating with
plaintext passwords.
If I run wbinfo -a auser% all I get back is:
plaintext password authentication succeeded

Prior to upgrading our production servers (2.2.6 on RH 7.3) I've been
testing 2.2.7 on a Redhat 8 box. Samba seems to install properly using
Redhat's errata RPM's but whenever I try to get a group or user listing I
get the following:

Our floater secretaries roam around the office constantly. Recently they've

Every day I get emailed Logwatch reports with several entries of the
following type. I've tried googling for these entries and found nothing
that indicats if these represent any particular problem. We did not have
these messages before and nothing really changed other than some RedHat
updates.
We have been using CUPS to handle printing and have run into some features
some of which a fresh install of the responsible server will probably fix.
However there are some disparities between the documentation and our
practical experience for which a clear statement would help others.

Hi Sean,
One side note first..
Please, PLEASE! stop using Word as your email editor! What starts off as a
20-line message becomes 500+ lines of crap MS HTML code in a text-only
mailing list.
That being said, a couple of suggestions:
Make sure your WINS server parameter is set so that Samba

printing handled by a Win2K server.
Thanks.

We are on 2.2.6Pre2 and if the patches are in you've just saved us some
time.
Does smbstatus say 2.2.6Pre2? Ours displays only 2.2.5.
However, as mentioned in another message we've found the problems occur if
we have a combination of HP4 and HP4000 drivers on the server.
