/write to it. They also want to synchronise the unix password to the
samba encrypted password automatically. I have tried various things but
cannot get it working. Please can you give me an idiots guide on how to
achieve this.

I am running Samba 3 on RedHat Enterprise ES rel 3 on an Intel box. I read
a man page about vfstest, but I am not able to find any such file on my
system. Can someone direct me to where I might find this file?

The smb service is not starting automatically. I can type service smb start
at the prompt and it loads, and I can then connect, but its not loading
automatically as it used to. Can someone point me in the right direction as
what file I need to change to make it load at startup. Thanks!

would make it easier if SAMBA could use say teh userpassword attribute
instead of that one :)

I currently use unix passwd sync = yes to accomplish this in 2.2.8. The
option still appears to be available in 3.0.0. You can specify a custom
script with passwd program and passwd chat in smb.conf which will check
the password's strength. This program must return successful before
samba will c
point me in the correct direction to modify the Samba
2.2 code so it mangles names the same way as Windows would? We are
also pursuing the makers of the software to see if they can leap into
this century and support long file names.
