Using Office2K (Word Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian
Linux, kernel 2.4.21.
1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem.
2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File-New).
3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the
error: Cannot

I downloaded samba-3.0.0.0 for AIX from Bullfreeware.com.
It downloaded and installed fine - I followed the instructions
carefully. I revised the /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf files
and created the test/default smb.conf file.
I linked /usr/local/samba back to /usr/local as a

these seem to slow up network access by the machine
does anybody know what this means, and how can i stop it?

You need to enable SWAT. You've currently got disbale set to yes. Set
it to no Then you need to HUP the xinet daemon to get it to reread the
files.

If they upgraded to a domain I would just say that the workgroup/domain name
changed. Even if everyone else is on a domain just put the domain name into
the workgroup field in smb.conf and restart nmbd and possibly smbd also and
they should be able to see you.

setting in smb.conf. Conveniently, lpr includes a -U option to specify

networks that used non-standard subnets.
To reproduce just set up a 10.0.0.0/3 network and observe

I know you can force a creation mask using create mode, but is there any way to
enforce under what group ownership a file/directory is created? My users belong to
several groups, and I want new files created as owned by a specific group...

and I am having trouble getting it configured right.

'Requires Windows 95 or better'. So I installed Linux and lived happily ever
after.
