I'm trying to join an existing domain as an additional domain controller but
I keep getting errors. Existing domain controller is an old Win2K server

I disconnected the machine from the network (unplugged the cable). I
changed the SID, removed the machine accounts from the Domain and
from the client machine. Restarted tha Samba Daemons. I renamed the
Client then shutdown the client. I reconnected the network cable and

On the repaired machine I changed the name of the machine to NEW and set
the Workgroup to WORKGROUP and rebooted.
I deleted the original machine account using smbpasswd -x restarted

I've got a Windows XP box that's unable to join my Samba (3.0.20)
domain. We've got about 400 other computers, mostly WinXP, that have
joined the domain quite successfully. I'm not sure when the most
recent one joined, though, but I'm reasonably sure nothing has changed
since then. The Samba

Then see if the name resolution problem persists. If it does you need to

This really helped with lengthy logon times, thanks (so not really the
topic of my post, but anyway)!
Hello,
I'm trying to set up Samba + OpenLDAP as a PDC.
I followed the instructions from chapter 6 in Samba-3 by Example, my
system is SuSE 9.1.
ldap, winbind, nmb and smb are running.
testparm says my smb.conf file is OK.
I set LDAP password using smbpasswd -w.

Looks like it didn't really join the domain. Run smbpasswd
with debug level of 10 and look for any errors at the tail end of the
join
at port 445
As you can see, no message to say domain joined or not

I have installed Samba 2.2.8a onto a Solaris 2.5.1 system from Sunfreeware.
Config file has been copied from another similar working system and all that
was changed was the netbios name.
Using smbpasswd to join the domain does not seem to be working. No message

Hi all,
I've got the following problem when trying to join a domain on a samba pdc
itself:
net rpc join eccag -U root
asks for password an then tells me that it cannot connect to the PDC.
Winbind-log gives the following:
[2004/08/31 02:29:15, 0] nsswitch/winbindd_util.c:get_trust_pw(1024)
machine. Only seems to happen with XP machines.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Yes I have. It is not assigned a password. Should it have one?
I don't think it needs a password - you just need to tell samba to use
that user as the guest user
