The new free Redhat is named Fedora. It includes the "newest" software, unlike
RH which includew only proven stable software.

Which means YOU don't have eth0 !?
I also subscribe against Ubuntu as server (maybe as a toy), try something
better (Fedora, Arch Linux, Gentoo).
One mode thing, the chkconfig response tells you tha
5 by default.

Disable these settings and samba starts on boot.
interfaces = lo eth0
bind interfaces only = Yes
