move preserves, copy creates as new. not a bug, by Windows design.

Hi,
assume two folders (directory A and B) with the sgid-bit (2770) enabled,
owned by different groups and located on the same samba-share with
"inherit permissions" option enabled for the share:

group-ownership of the files do

I am using Samba-3. I have a samba share named art. Is there any way to get
all files and folders that are created in art to inherit the group
permissions of art?

Sorry I'm late on this thread, but would 'force user = ' force group = '
work?

Hi guys,
How are you ?
We have a share named [userprofile] on our Samba-3.0.9 server where each
users' profile is stored.
Fairly often a user which is not the user that owns the profile i.e and
admin, needs to copy files into other users' profile folders.
The problem which then arises is that the
the users "homes" share was also shared separately to automatically map the drive
via "logon drive = h:"
samba was applying standard linux perms to files in homes.
my solution: change home directory in /etc/passwd to something else, and
use a logon.bat to map the drives we need.
simple really, too
redhat9, samba 3.0.2a-1 as pdc, wins, xp-pro domain clients, smbpasswd
backend.
all files created get stock 744 perms
directories created in the samba share get 755
I cant seem to over-ride these?
I would like 770
my share definition has..
[share]
path = /mypath
valid users = @staff
writable = yes
23 matches
