I'm not sure if the problem I'm about to describe is related to configuration or a limitation in SAMBA, hopefully you'll know the answer...
We have a SAMBA server that provides Windows workstations access to CATIA V5 CAD data which resides on other NFS servers.

could you please provide more information about Samba version, OS (AIX?), and maybe full smb.conf?
It would also help if you isolate log access to the files in the level 10 samba logs.
