Is it possible to configure Samba to respond to net time requests without
authentication?
If I run NET TIME \\PDC as a machine's local administrator, I get Access is

run it as a non-domain account if possible.
thanks,
IF file and print sharing is enabled on them, you write a batch file that can
connect to them all
and run regedit to push out refistry changes to all of them.
Look at PStools to help you with it, specifically psexec.exe
(Microsoft recently bought out SysInternals, who previously published the
settings. + anti spyware plugin.
You are warned.

Hi Adam,
According to http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/archive/2005/02/11/371474.aspx
, the INTERACTIVE group can be given permissions to change system time
(through secpol.msc). Of course, logged users are included and can do
it too (at their own peril ;)).

Yep. As far as I know, regular users do not have the right to change the
time. You need to have admin rights. (or at least power user, I'm not
sure)

Many of the XP systems shipping today come pre-configured to keep their
clocks in sync by communicating with one of Microsoft's SNTP servers,
and will apparently automatically use a local AD server if available,
as well.
The net time command can be used to change the systems to use a local

Hello,
When Samba is a time server, all clients clocks are set to the server
clock with the command net time \\server_name
By using the command 'net time \\SERVNAME /SET /YES' in your client logon
script or on the command line.
Cheers,
Erik.

It is easy to check if time server is running ok.
just go to a DOS Prompt on your Windows box, type
net time \\server\ /set
after a couple seconds, it should ask you for a Yes or No
say y enter and your local time should adjust in within about 5 seconds.
Good luck

In NT/2k/XP you need to allow your users to set the time (Users Manager).

This works fine with Win98, but does not work with NT/2k/XP because of a
permissions problem. Any way to get around that?
Thanks.
