Why don't you check up the neat utility changepassword from
http://sourceforge.net. It works just wonderfully for me and also is an Open
Source package which can be modified for your needs.
Users at my place didn't even know they were taking their files from a
Linux system until I chan

you need to set the password chat option in the global section. This is
what I use and it works well. Users just hit cntl-alt-del to change
password or use the previously mentioned applet in win98
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password*
