New version is in /usr/local/samba/...
smbd is in /usr/local/samba/bin/
Your startup scripts are probably still refering to a smbd in a different location.

When it finished, it typed, service smb stop, service smb restart, then
smbclient -L firewall, which still reported 2.2.7a.
