It may be a compilatotor/linker error when assembler code is created, but
it may as well be some some 32/64 bit spesific code creating this odd

Have you tried without --with-gnu-ld? I would expect you are using /usr/ccs/bin/ld
which is the Sun version of ld. I've compiled on Solaris 9 without any problems on
several systems and releases of Samba 3.x
