AXIS 1650 scanning support is limited to specific Canon devices only:
https://www.axis.com/techsup/prtsrv/axis_1650/printers_eur.htm
In theory, it could work as generic USB-over-TCP device but it does not. The
firmware probably includes a whitelist of supported devices or some other way
to know
I'm confused- are you proposing to add a new backend that lets pixma
scanners work over this AXIS machine, but not other scanners?

Thank a lot! I've updated the README, hope it will help other users of
the same device.

Give me please a short one-line instruction how to enable AirScan on

have similar problems.

Hello,
I have a Canon MF5730 MFP with external AXIS 1650 print server:
https://www.axis.com/techsup/prtsrv/axis_1650/index.htm
I've reverse engineered the print data format and wrote CUPS driver couple of
years ago so printing works fine.
Now it's time for scanning. Thanks to SANE and Pixma
Hi,
I don't look through Canon's marketing policy how they name their
devices. It's not such easy as it looks like: EU = 5, US = 7.
E.g.: For Canon imageClass MF4700 Series I found these models:
MF4720, MF4730, MF4750, MF4770 and MF4780 (1x Asia, 3x Europe, 1x US).
For other models Canon is

Hi,
No, this has nothing to do with eSCL.
ippusbxd allows you to use escl backends on the usb.
The problem is that sane doesn't detect the scanner on the usb anymore,
so PIXMA can't be used anymore.
I don't know if ippusbxd solved the problem?

Rolf, please do not add a break dependency against ippusbxd. It is most
probably only some models which cause problems.
If you want to use eSCL via the network it does not matter whether
ippusbxd is running or not. You only need to make sure to select the
correct scanner entry in the client
