Hi People,
when I abort a scan during converting the image to jpg, xsane-win crashes
without any error. If I abort during the scanning (receiving the colors,
I'm using a 3-pass-scanner), there comes only the message "operation
canceled" without crash.

Hmm...well maybe its not quite fixed :). After a number of different
setups I discovered that my UMAX MX3 disliked having the scsi chain
messed with unless it was also power cycled. I can setup my chain pretty
much how I like and as long as I turn EVERYTHING off and then everything
on again the bla

I have an Acer scanprisa 640UT USB scanner, and a mandrake8.0 setup (sane
1.0.4).
I do this:
Boot up computer and turn on scanner
mknod /dev/usbscanner c 180 48
acerfirm /dev/usbscanner u64v119.bin
[root@localhost /root]# ./acerfirm -v /dev/usbscan

The LED flashes and the scanner moves the light some, sounds very normal.
