The lamp control is done in the scanner. When the lamp has turned on then the lamp needs some time to create a stable illumination. There is no way for the backend to find out if the lamp just has been turned on or not. I do not think that the status of the lamp has anything to do with the freeze

I have attempted a number of times to build sane, against two versions of gcc on two different machines, and in each case get a link in /usr/local/lib pointing to /usr/local/lib/sane/libsane-dll.a, except this file does not exist. I am not a developer, but has anyone any idea why this is happen
