firmware was already downloaded (e.g

I don't think much has been done yet. I don't think we need to change
any backends (the only thing would be if backends wanted to supply

Spot's been long dead. AFAIK there is no sane driver, not even a started one,
and very little chance to see one one day.

Hi,
Depending on which card you have, you need different kernel modules:
Symbios Logic 53C400 A: driver g_NCR5380
Symbios Logic 53C416: driver sym53c416
Symbios Logic 53C8xx: driver ncr53c8xx
All can be found in /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi.

Can you give some details what has to be done for that? Are changes
necessary for the backends, frontends and/or the API?

Both are already on the TODO for SANE2. As I don't have a film

I am try to use a Canon Lide30 scanner(USB) with Linux RH8.0.
Evidently a rebranded Plustek
I first checked with 'lsusb' and the scanner is recognized.
I then loaded the scanner module and then ran 'sane-find-scanner and it
reported the scanner at /dev/usb/scanner0. However when I started Xsan

Thanks David,
I found the posting by Mark Plowman and followed his advice. A 'belt and braces
approach'
perhaps, but I've got work to do!

Hi,
I have installed the backend, but it works with umax_pp -p -t 1 and do not with
scanimage -L.
Where is the problem? I couldn't change the parport0/base-addr number to hex.
I mean, the 888 is unchangeable !! Why is that? Because the permissions?
Thanks, and accept my apologizes if this

Oliver, I think you may have cracked it.
Snape20.bin permissions were "-rw--- 1 root".
I went "chmod o+rx-w Snape20.bin" so they are now "-rwr-x".
Xsane was immediately able to shake hands with the scanner from a user desktop.
I'm still not sure why this problem seemed to correct itself -
Henning,
Thanks for your help. I think Oliver has spotted the problem - inadequate
permissions on
the firmware file. But I still can't understand why, after refusing to work
initially
everything then came right for a day or so, only to then go back to failing to
work!
Cheers, and thanks again
If the backend provides focus control, the frontends make it available
to the user. For some film scanners focus control is already
supported by the SANE programs.

Hi All
I have recently received a HP 3570c scanner as a birthday present.
Unfortunately, I've discovered that SANE doesn't have a backend for it.
Is anyone aware of development of a driver for it (or even for the HP
3500)? If not, can someone point me towards info on getting it done
myself? As thi
