I am using xsane to copy: print to a laserjet printer what is
scanned from a Print-Scan-Copy (PSC) ink jet printer. It works, and
saves me gobs on ink. Xsane displays an image position widget. I
am trying to understand how this works. It is not intuitive to me.

I'm attempting to get an HP Scanjet 4100c USB scanner working on
Fedora Core 5 with a 2.6.16 kernel, but I seem be having some
difficulties. When I connect the device, I see the following messages
in /var/log/messages:

I don't have Windows installed on this computer--I'm waiting on parts to
finish my new unit--Running Ubuntu 6.06--any logs you need or do I need
to wait til I have a dual-boot??
hp3900 backend isn't ready to work with your scanner yet. Currently it
supports hp scanjet 3970 and hp scanjet 4070

I trying it with sane-backend - 1.0.17, and sane-frontends 1.0.13,
and get only strange noise:

With the widget you are talking about you select the image position on
the printed page. Due to a change in the last version this does not work
for all printers any more. This will be corrected in the next xsane
version.
With the zoom solider you select the zoom factor of the printed image.
