It's great to have Xsane up and working, but I keep noticing that the
necessity to select the default device is annoying. When Xsane starts,
the opening dialog offers a v4l device (my webcam which I will never use
with sane) and the scanner that I am using.
Is there any way to configure Xsane

Hi Alesh,
Attached are changes to epkowa.desc (against the git snapshot of 2010-07-11).
Applied, thanks.

sure, just comment out (#) the v4l line in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. In
fact, you can do that for any backend that you don't use.

Some extra info: The scanner hangs sometimes (after sometime of use I
perceived that) and scanimage stops working (the reader light starts
moving, then it stops and scanimage gives an error). Powering the
scanner of and on solves the problem.

Hi Folks:
I can run xsane as root with no problems but as a non-root user it
does not find my hp8500 wireless scanner. Is this a device file
permissions issue? I need some help determining which device file to
chmod.
My setup is:
Fedora 13, hp8500 officejet pro w/wifi interface.
Thanks very
I believe the hpaio backend supports your scanner. It is part of the
hplip project, not sane proper. Perhaps you could ask them?
