Have you found a solution? I have exactly the same problem.
ScanGear have no problems to scan using the ADF, but it lacks of essential
functions.

device. Simply, check with root user (sudo) and the sane tools if they find

VueScan is a possibility. Not free software (neither speech nor beer) but
has Linux support for many scanners.
