I see what you mean. My suggestion--for us end-user guys who are not
programmers--would be to add the words Deskjet series, Photosmart
series, and Laserjet series to the HP listings ordered by printer type
(http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html). Then leave all the fields
blank
After all that trouble, the problem was very simple.
The hplip web site reported that I did not need to update my version to
hplip-3.9.8. However, on further reading I found on the same web site
conflicting information. So I ran the installer. Had no problems.
Then I ran hp-setup. Then the
re:HP deskjet F4400 series (f4480)
This series of HP all-in-one printer/scanners is not mentioned anywhere
in the compatibility charts.
I tried the search engine at
http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl
for a complete list and nothing came up.
I can't find the word deskjet anywhere in
