Thank you Jonathan--I'll keep using it report usability
The problem happens because shading correction is not implemented yet.

I've tried changing every setting I could find to decrease the pink
colour. A white scan is almost pink all the way across--darker at the
edges lighter in the centre--is there a way to decrease the lamp
output or is there another setting I should attend to?
Thank you--I've installed the driver--scans look to be on the pink
side--will work with setting report back--THANKS!!
I'm still getting a black scan from the 4370--is there a more current
driver?
Can you post the output of 'sudo lsusb -vv'?

I recently sent a E-mail to HP's president Mark Hurd talking about the
poor state of Linux support with HP products. I did not expect an answer
to my mail was very surprised to get several e-mails 3 phone calls
in return. It seems that HP is getting sensitive in regards to Linux
support is
if they (HP) would provide technical specs for the scanners, I'm
sure there are many other people on this list who would create/update
backends to fully support the HP scanners.
Anyway, enough rambling, good job and many thanks to you!

Only for your information:
At least for very most HP printers and all-in-one devices there is
really good and active Linux support for printing and scanning, see
