urpmi, which does dependency tracking, it should work out well.
The guy who added this feature to Mandrake's rpm also posted to the rpm-devel
list, but didn't get a real response from there, perhaps they don't see this
as a problem.

Yes, it should be supported by the ehci module.
usb1.1 is supported by ohci or uhci/usb-uhci, depending on the chipset.

for an usb scanner, only for scsi or parport. This might speed up scanning in
a more general way.
Or maybe running sane-find-scanner first. If that doesn't find a scanner, then
there's no use scanning with the backends. Or am I wrong on that one?

s root change it in /etc/modules.conf. It should list this now:
alias usb-interface0 uhci
You can change it to:
alias usb-interface0 usb-uhci
After a reboot you can it should have been changed.

I have put in /etc/modules:
scanner
Most distributions have their initscripts read /etc/modules, and load the
drivers listed there.
So it gets loaded at boottime.

from source, it's files will not be in the rpm database,
so rpm doesn't know they are already installed.
What you can do is install the rpm with the --nodeps option.

If your libusb-0.1.so.4 is located in /usr/local/lib, you need to add
/usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf, and run ldconfig. That should help.

It talks about the bios of the scsi card, which needs 2 settings
changed.
Though in my case i found out I shouldn't turn off disconnect, but
leave it to default.
You could try to fiddle with that.

I'm not sure, but I believe you need to install libusb0.1 and
libusb0.1-devel.
The second one provides:
/usr/bin/libusb-config
/usr/include/usb.h
/usr/lib/libusb.a
/usr/lib/libusb.la
/usr/lib/libusb.so
I assume that's what it is looking for.
