I am using Ubuntu Fiesty.
Can you please suggest how I can have cups print to a pdf file instead
of a PS file? I choose the pdf printer and yet the output is PS.

I tried adding the following to the sane.d/avision.conf file:

After that change;
Xsane reports no devices available
sane-find-scanner -q
Reports:
found USB scanner (vendor=0
I ran /sane-find-scanner -q and now realise that the Visioneer XP 450
does not have the gt6801 or 6816 chip. I have a printer that also has a
combined scanner and it was that which was giving the results so powered
it off.
Xsane /run with only the visioneer scanner reports No devices available.
Could someone please help me understand what I am to do to use my
Visioneer XP450 in Ubuntu.
Currently when I run xsane the following popup appears:
failed to open device gt68xx.libusb.001:009 invalide arguement.
Terminal also reports:
[gt68xx] Couldn't open firmware file
(`/usr/share/sane/gt68

you are quite far off. you need to download the sane source code, and
follow the instructions inside. this has nothing whatsoever to do with
with /etc/sane.d, which is where the configuration file for a
completed install of sane are located.

It is not that I can not read carefully, but that I had found that the
su command could not be run due to my only password being rejected. I
therefore hoped that sudo would do and that is why I spelt out that I
had used sudo not su. I had been given advice to use sudo in another
situati

When I run su and put in my login password it is rejected as an
authentication failure. When I use the same password in sudo, it works!
Do you have a work around?

I assume that running it as root means putting sudo in front.
I can not run the command:
sudo SANE_DEBUG_AVISION=7 scanimage -L
it gives a command not found error.
