There is a section "supported devices" where you can see if your scanner
is supported or not.

I've just purchased a HP Scanjet 5470c scanner.(USB)
Is there any way I can use this scanner under RedHat 8.0 ?
Or am I stuck with Windows yet again ?

Why? You knew, that it is not supported by SANE, didn't you? That's
why we have the lists for supported scanners on the SANE webpage.

I am investigating the possibility of using the Sane tools with an HP
ScanJet 5470c, running on a RedHat Linux 7.1 box. Unless I am missing
something, it does not appear that either the current HP backend or
the current Avision
