i tend to agree with you about sled, and perhaps the kubuntu 12.04lts
i have on my laptop, but i need the stability those releases provide.
so compared to the opensuse i run at home, i guess they are
positively ancient.

i'm trying to deploy a canon dr-2580c. edited the dll.conf file and
the scanner is detected.
scanimage -L
device `canon_dr:libusb:001:008' is a CANON DR-2580C scanner
but when i try to use it, i get the infamous Invalid argument.
