The individual is considered as one of the technology experts in Client IT. The architect engages with project teams in accordance with architecture policy and procedures. This individual works with project teams to recommend the applications and technical architecture approach for the project and define to a further level of detail as the project progresses. The Architect provides support and produces the deliverables associated with architecture and design reviews during the lifecycle of the project. The deliverable includes but not constrained to the solutions architecture, applications and technical architectural diagrams, architecture and design review documents. The architect leads the design review process and ensures recommendations made are understood by the recipients and are monitored during the project lifecycle. The Architect keeps up to date with emerging technologies and educates the organization regarding the applications of emerging technologies. He or she has the capability of leading software developers in formulating/defining specifications and developing applications of varying complexity including the modification of existing applications. Other duties include working with business clients and other infrastructure groups to resolve business and systems issues. This individual is responsible for adhering to the company's development lifecycle on all sizes of development and enhancement projects. The Architect supports and assists the client with project planning, project definition, requirements definition, analysis, design, testing, system documentation, user training and consulting on development. Potential Accountabilities 1. Responsible to provide technical leadership in developing approaches to the solution of critical architecture problems and broad design issues. Apply business insights to build robust technical solutions. 2. Works with the business analysis, architecture and development teams to understand functional specification and translate them in to technical specification and solutions architecture. 3. Experienced enough to look beyond the obvious; takes future requirements into account when evaluating alternative solutions. 4. Focuses on external interfaces and implementation strategies, and is responsible for the integrity of the architecture across the functional areas (architecture, system engineering, software development, and test engineering) and across multiple projects. 5. Possess hands-on experience in relevant technology. Considered one of client’s experienced technical resources and acknowledged experts in relevant technical areas. Expert in doing technical evaluation of packaged software or new technology. 6. Communicate effectively within a cross-functional group setting, demonstrating excellent verbal and written skills when communicating technical concepts as they relate to business problems. Establish strong relationships with business analysts and subject matter experts. Build consensus through presentation of technical options in easy to understand fashion and explore alternative ways of resolving business issues. 7. Must be able to lead architecture and design reviews, maintain documentation of current integration technologies and standards, collaborate on business process designs and translate them into technology requirements and recommend viable business and technical options. 8. Ensures that the architecture and development teams adhere to standards defined in the design and development phases of the Matson SDLC. Takes ultimate responsibility that the project teams develop and maintain technical documentation as defined within the SDLC. Write concise specifications that are understandable and easily followed by the team mates. 9. Transform applications to reusable services. This application transformation seeks to consolidate technologically similar applications to standardized technology platforms. Development and implementation of these application infrastructure design concepts will provide significant efficiencies to application deployment, management and availability. ** *Education and/or Experience* Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering-related field (B.A. or B.S) from an accredited college or university, Master’s (M.S., M.S.E., or M.Eng) degree in science or engineering-related field preferable. Six-plus years of related work in architecture with 10-years experience in application development. Proven track record of designing and delivering complex enterprise software products and business process management solutions. Experience with supply chain solutions for shipping or retail industries or experience in domestic or international transportation desirable. * * *Skills* The individual should have experience with full-lifecycle development. The individual must have extensive experience developing in one or more of the following areas: *Applications Architect Skills:* · Macro and micro IT process methodologies such as a Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile Scrum, respectively. · Solid understanding of ITIL concepts and frameworks. · Effective use of UML and BPMN diagramming and specification methodologies, using advanced tools such as Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect. · Successful history of architecting, designing, developing, and deploying business applications using *open source* J2EE / Java technologies. · Hands-on experience with architectural patterns such as GoF, EAI, and SOA. · Hands-on experience with *open source* platform technologies such as Apache Web Server, JBoss & Tomcat Application Server, and MySQL & Postgres database server. · Hands-on experience developing mobile applications using HTML5, appcelerator are *desirable*. *Systems Architect Skills*: · Macro and micro IT process methodologies such as a Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile Scrum, respectively. · Solid understanding of ITIL concepts and frameworks. · Effective use of UML and BPMN diagramming and specification methodologies, using advanced tools such as Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect. · Successful history of architecting, designing, developing, and deploying business application solutions using both in-house developed systems and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software. · Solid understanding of networking, server, virtualization, and Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies. · Hands-on experience of defining, implementing, and measuring capacity management including processing, network, storage, and memory resources. · Proven track record of architecting and designing of highly-available solutions that support business continuity and disaster recovery. · Hands-on experience with *open source* platform technologies such as Apache Web Server, JBoss & Tomcat Application Server, and MySQL & Postgres database server *desirable*. · Hands-on experience with VMware, EC2, or vendor cloud technologies *desirable*.
