** *Title: SAS/Olap Database Analyst* Location: Plano, TX Duration: 6 month contract with possible extension thereafter PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide performance analysis and reporting services by manipulating complex raw data files and running ad hoc data queries against existing large databases. The data extracted through these queries will then be formatted into reports that can be used by management and end users for decision-making purposes. The position will involve analytical skills to relate business goals to data elements and structures to support performance measurement. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Assist in the implementation, maintenance and the use of the data repository. 2. Work with report consumers to clarify/interpret analytical reports, identify data needs and resolve data integrity issues. 3. Promote the use of standardized reports and custom report design 4. Participate in the development and implementation of the report rollouts 5. Work collaboratively with the team members to maximize system capabilities 6. Must be extremely detail oriented, while also balancing time to completion. 7. Show strong communication skills in both written and oral style. 8. Document all assigned data management activities including additions and/or changes to the database structure and environment. 9. Provide guidance and develop a format to be used with user level acceptance, parallel, data migration and data conversion testing 10. Identify system enhancements and recommend system development priorities 11. Consult with various departments in the development of business application needs 12. Consult with business application developers to ensure optimum performance 13. Work with departments to identify best practices needed for business process enhancement 14. Communicate and support expectations that are consistent with district objectives 15. Provide an effective communication process that involves listening and providing feedback to constituents 16. Strong customer service orientation and a willingness to help others 17. Ability to work on a team in a collaborative environment 18. Utilize critical thinking skills for refining business processes for efficiency and ROI 19. Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to work with various departments during overlapping project phases 20. Obtain a working knowledge of departmental business and business processes 21. Take initiative to manage conflict and build consensus 22. Identify and analyze risk and benefits of system design and development 23. Use findings to maintain or improve conditions in the area of emerging technology 24. Develop, maintain and utilize appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the district’s overall improvement effort. 25. Provide technical assistance to staff 26. Assist with coordination and facilitation of training 27. Take initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to information management systems technology 28. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role for all district staff 29. Must be able to multi-task in stressful situations. 30. Must be able to work long hours if necessary 31. Must have strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, have strong desire to learn, and be able to prioritize and multitask in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment. 32. Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from superiors 33. Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor 34. Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor 35. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or equivalent education and work experience. Vocational certification and/or minimum of three years of related work experience. Special Knowledge/Skills: 1. Proficient in data analysis using OLAP tools such as SAS 2. Ability to relate business goals to data elements and structures to support performance measurement 3. Translating reporting requirements from statistical concepts into data architectures and simple computer interfaces using SAS or any other OLAP tool 4. Knowledge of statistical concepts in an educational environment 5. Must be able to read database schemas and interpret database structures. 6. Familiarity with database programming, systems development methodologies, data modeling and database design 7. Perform database administration tasks as assigned 8. Good project management and communication skills 9. Creative with data presentations 10. Database development to include web-based solutions 11. IBM iSeries, J2EE java script, and Tomcat, Weblogic environment preferred 12. Strong project management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 13. Willingness to execute written employment contract with Plano ISD Experience: 1. Three years advanced experience designing, supporting or consulting with an OLAP application 2. Experience writing applications in SAS and the SAS ETL integration software 3. Experience with running queries against DBII on AS400 4. Familiar with open data access software standards such as JDBC, ODBC, OLE/DB 5. Experience with Web based applications (HTML, ASP, Java, etc…) 6. Familiar with Linux operating systems, Apache, Tomcat servers 7.
