*Title:* *Sr. Checkpoint Firewall Engineer* posted on 2013-07-19 11:22:47

*Job Description:*Sr. Checkpoint Firewall Engineer
Duration: 6 months+
Location : Washington DC
9+ yrs exp needed

*Client is seeking qualified candidate that resides local to the Washington
DC area*
- Checkpoint expert, including an expert on troubleshooting the firewalls,
implementing monitoring and upgrading.
- Extensive knowledge of best practices in network security architecture
and configuration, i.e. firewall zones, application flow, use of VLANs, etc.
- Good knowledge of Web Application Firewall configuration, preferably
Citrix NetScalers

*Job Requirements:* *Key project requirements:*
1) Stabilize firewalls, primarily Internet firewalls – A while back we had
a significant outage that brought our firewalls down. This appeared to be a
bug, but Checkpoint recommended further steps via a ticket. Each is slight,
but requires planning, testing and assessment if the problem is resolved.
2) Improve monitoring of firewalls – We have been trying to configure
rigorous and detailed monitoring of our firewalls (CPU utilization, link
utilization, connection table utilization, etc.) and run into various
obstacles. Right now, we have a ticket open with Checkpoint, because they
don’t know why SNMP traps aren’t working.
3) Upgrade all firewalls to R75.45 – Our firewall versions are mixed and
some management platforms are Windows. We want to migrate away from Windows
(all SPLAT) and upgrade all firewall clusters to R75.45, per Checkpoint’s
recommendation.
