Title: Sr. Mainframe Cobol Developer posted on 2014-08-13 19:38:56 Job Description:Senior-Level Application Development (programming) staff typically develops or assist in the development of Analysis and Design documents, traceability matrices and perform programming functions to support change requirements or problem resolution. - Developing, testing and debugging programs and other software utilizing automated tools. - Developing written estimates of time and resources required to implement systems changes. - Developing technical specifications for system changes and improvements. - Identifying and analyzing data and developing reports and other communications to provide meaningful information for decision-making, prioritizing resources, responding to requests and for future planning etc. - Identifying and analyzing risks associated with change, recommending mitigating measures and solutions - Effectively communicating information for the purpose of having others learn, understand and apply specific principles, techniques or information. - Converting data from project specifications and statements of problems and procedures to create or modify computer programs. - Preparing, or receiving from systems analyst, detailed specifications to describe sequence of steps that program must follow and input, output, and logical operations involved. - Analyzing specifications, applying knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, and symbolic logic. - Converting detailed specifications to language capable of being processed by computer. - Entering program codes into computer system. - Inputting test data into computer. - Correcting program errors, using methods such as modifying program or altering sequence of program steps. - Writing instructions to guide operating personnel during production runs. - Analyzing, reviewing, and rewriting programs to increase operating efficiency or to adapt program to new requirements. - Compiling and writing documentation of program development and subsequent revisions. Job Requirements: - *Experience developing in a system that supports the determination of eligibility for human services programs (e.g. TANF, Medicaid, Food Assistance)* - Experience programming in COBOL and CICS - Experience working with IBM Information Management System (IMS) and DB2 on mission critical systems. - Experience working in JCL - Experience analyzing and evaluating proposed system changes and estimating work effort to implement those changes - Experience working on IBM z/OS *Desired Skills* Experience working in Time Sharing Option (TSO) software environment. Knowledge of the Rational suite of tools or other Eclipse framework desktop tools... Experience utilizing structured, industry standard, SDLC processes Mentoring other workers in an eligibility system Experience using development debug tools such as IBM Debug.
