Job Description: Our client in looking for a database developer to join their team for a project that will enhance the reporting capabilities for their product. This person will not be doing system dba work (no clustering, backup). First off they will be stabilizing the current environment, then they will assist in fixing the replication and ETL process for reporting. All the while and going forward they will be writing sql queries and development to assist in the report project. Additional Information: They have SQL server database and reporting they do on part of the database, it is very unstable, a lot of performance issues with the application being down 18 hours frequently. Need someone to work on the backend database and stabilize their system/improve performance for the reports for the clients. She asked them the type of database they have- said it was written back in 2001, discussed about that. Let her know she had experience working with legacy systems/re-writing projects. She did not ask real technical questions. Both positions need to be hands on. Data warehousing. Need guru in data warehousing concepts. Someone who has designed data warehouse for reporting purposes. Needs to have design experience of getting data from oltp db to reporting db. Usually this is a flatter structure vs normalized oltp db. Db developer. Strong strong SQL skills, understands performance impact of writing queries certain way. Be able to analyze database via tools and execution plans to add/delete indexes to improve performance. Understands Db best practices. Able to use these practices to create schema. Data warehousing exp a plus.
