Position:v38-Teradata DBA Location: Phoenix, AZ Duration:2 yr+ contract Basic Job InformationRef No.: 13-00451 Position Type: Contract Job Description Teradata DBA - The Lead DBA will be responsible for complex database performance tuning, security, database backup & recovery strategy, and implementing monitoring procedures to maximize availability of the database. A key component of success will be the development and maintenance of a formal communication plan providing status and health of the production environment and establishment of quality standards relative to all aspects of database management. Must be a strong leader and work successfully with multiple technology and business organizations. Experience in relationship building and leading without authority is required. The incumbent most possess excellent communication and influencing at all levels skills. · 3+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA · 7-10 years of experience as a developer, DBA or other technical role in an IT field · Experience leading projects/teams in a large, 24x7 environment.· Experience managing a large user base in a multi-terabyte, multi-application database system. · Ability to lead the development and management of database design standards. · Experience in security administration which includes designing and implementing roles, profiles and account strings. · Manage, tune & optimize workload management which involves designing and setting up workload groups, assigning priorities, throttles and meeting SLAs · Provide production database support with specific focus on availability, capacity, performance, security and recoverability. · Perform database installation and configuration, tuning, capacity planning, health checks, backups and recovery and change management according to documented standards. · Provide consultation to application development teams on DBMS product technical issues, techniques and SQL review. Provide guidance on best practices & standards and supports the project teams withdatabase related activities throughout the software development lifecycle. · Evaluate and certifies database technologies, while assisting in the management of vendor relationships and the definition of vendor product feature set. · Mentoring and training of other database administrators, managing task assignments for associate database administrators, reviewing work and providing input to Manager. · Provide ultimate direction for multiple projects and is responsible forsolving highly technical and complex problems. · Contribute to business results through quality of results, advice and thought leadership. · Develop innovative solutions to problems that are strategic in nature, have long-term consequence, and tend to relate to business strategy, financial performance and effective resource utilization Position Requirements: High degree of skill with database commands and Teradata utilities such as SQL Assistant, TSET, Visual Explain, arcmain, TASM, Viewpoint, etc. Advanced knowledge of database administration tasks such as Database Console utilities, security, work load management. Previous experience with issues around database, client tool, and hardware upgrades. Ability to write, debug and tune SQL, macros, procedures, implementation of multi-value compression, etc. Experience with database monitoring and tuning tools Experience with the Solaris or Linux operating system as well as competence with shell scripting Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to present to Sr. Leadership.
