SQL Server clustering and/or Oracle ASM/GRID/RAC (11gR2) Implementation and maintenance of appliance products like Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) a plus. Managing multiple RDBMS on large systems configured as a highly available 24x7 environment. Installing, patching, upgrading and maintaining database environments. Manage successful global teams with little or no supervision. Manage budgets for resources, software and maintenance. Performance tuning and advanced troubleshooting skills both at the database and stored code (e.g. PL/SQL blocks, T/SQL blocks, stored procedures etc.). Proficient with advanced configuration of third party backup software and restore/recovery of production database using third party backup software. Sizing, space management using home grown or third party software. UNIX commands knowledge required. UNIX administration knowledge is a plus. Advanced replication technologies offered with the database products as well as those offered by third party products. Experience in OS scripting like bash, Perl, PowerShell etc. required. Understanding of storage technologies like NAS and SAN and associated features for database technologies like cloning and snapshotting. Experience with SQL server 2012 DBA tasks a plus. . Excellent to outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The ability to manage multiple concurrent issues with minimal supervision & direction. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to changes in database technology Previous experience in working and managing offshore IT resources preferred. Be a mentor to the team and provide career guidance. Specific Duties: Ensure the quality and consistency of data and database systems by following a defined set of procedures (change control, security procedures, user passwords, backups, etc.). Design, develop and document operational and application related database standards and procedures and enforce compliance to those standards. Maintain sound backup and error recovery procedures by conducting periodic backup audits, ensuring all databases are being backed-up and can be recovered/restored if need be. Ability to provide support in database usage, and database performance. Pro-actively identifies database issues and coordinates resolution of the identified issues. Assume ownership of database related problems; pursue problem resolution and root cause analysis Interact with vendors and Oracle support in critical database problem situations. Work with cross project teams to resolve technical performance issues/bottlenecks (e.g., network, storage, application). Ensures the database environment is highly reliable, provides the required functionality, is efficient, and cost effective. Troubleshoots daily program problems to assist program users in accessing and manipulating application data. Perform various project related database requests for customers. Understand, design and implement major application database structure, stored code, and SQL to help design and fix application functionality. Perform database administration tasks to back-up staff when required. Available to work weekends/evenings as business needs arise. Learn and support other database and non-database technologies as and when required and/or assigned. Participate in after-hours/weekends on call rotation. Collaborate with application architects, technical coordinators, developers and peer infrastructure engineers to design and support IT platforms and environments. Ensure that the database team produces timely deliverables and achieves milestones set by the organization.
