*Responsibilities:* Reporting to the Manager - IT Operations, the Senior Systems Engineer is part of a team composed of personnel responsible for the maintenance, build and design of computing and storage infrastructure. In addition, this position ensures the generation of design, build, operation and maintenance documentation for the Tier I and Tier II support teams. The Senior Systems Engineer works closely with business owners, engineers and application development teams to resolve issues and identify the root cause of problems. Key will be the ability to act dynamically and accurately to match a highly nimble business environment. Personal and team accountability will be fundamental in this role. Other position responsibilities include but not limited to: • Responsible for and assists in the troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure problems escalated to the Storage and Systems Engineering team. • Performs application profiling, capacity planning, workload modeling and forecasting on systems and storage. • Analyzes the performance of the infrastructure against current needs and planning for needed improvements. • Ensures optimal system and storage configuration and provisioning through engineering health checks and engagement of storage / system vendors as required to resolve issues. • Responsible for reporting of system and storage allocation, usage trends, I/O performance and bottleneck analysis • Responsible for developing, maintaining and documenting technology standards used in the environment. *Key success factors:* • Be expected to establish credibility with engineers and developers via a deeply technical skill set. • Be expected to establish credibility with non-technical leaders via excellent business acumen and collaborative team work. • Be highly creative – not focused at all on the way it’s been done in the past. • Obsess on delivering needed results following deep, actionable analysis. • Wow his/her peers via smart, efficient communication backed deeply by clearly presented data. • Remain impressively calm during support difficulties and/or competing priorities. • Plan for failure, thoughtfully providing documented plans for mitigation or rapid recovery in all situations affecting the business. • Excellent communication skills, providing operational insight to core stakeholders while effectively educating/updating a broader team of interested parties on a recurring basis. *Relevant experience should include:* • In-depth experience in engineering systems and storage to manage capacity across large and remote installations of 1000+ servers and Petabytes of storage • Extensive experience in UNIX shell scripting and developing automation tools using perl, python or other languages. • Familiarity with mid-range operating systems software and hardware, utilizing the following technologies: IBM AIX, linux, IBM Blade Center and IBM pSeries. • Advanced or Fundamental understanding of the following technologies: mysql, Oracle applications, Veritas Netbackup provisioning, replication and maintenance. • Advanced or Fundamental knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN), utilizing the following technologies and standards, Cisco Switches, VLANS, Subnetting, Supernetting, Trunking, Ethernet, EtherChannel, Firewalls, Gigabit Ethernet, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP. • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and change with shifting priorities. • Demonstrated ability to engage with business owners to understand their requirements, develop strategies to support business goals. *Other:* • B.S.
