Sr. UNIX Engineer position available in Minneapolis

This will include designing and documenting client solutions as well
as providing guidance and procedural direction. The UNIX administrator
will also be responsible for providing technical expertise and
guidance to application teams and delivery managers within the
organization. The position is responsible for conducting compatibility
and feasibility studies on the operating systems listed previously.
Work with the Engineering organization to research, analyze and
incorporate emerging technologies into the UNIX environment. Prepare
thorough procedural documentation and scripting of processes for
automation of activities. This individual may also be part of the 24x7
on-call/pager support for the existing UNIX systems. Candidate must
possess solid analytical, technical, written and oral communication
skills.

Key Responsibilities

• This individual will perform design and planning activities on Sun
Solaris and Redhat Systems. This will include designing and
documenting client solutions as well as providing guidance and
procedural direction.

• Administration of the UNIX and Linux environments including
validating environmental health and providing day-to-day support is a
key area of responsibility.

• Performance Management using tools such and BMC Enterprise
Performance Assurance, Storage Management in partnership with the
Storage team, Engineering new solutions/RPMs and Patches in
partnership with Engineering organization are additional areas of
responsibility.

• The individual will also research, analyze and incorporate emerging
technologies into the UNIX environment.

• This individual will participate in a 24x7 on-call/pager support
rotation with other team members.

•  The Wholesale Banking business is very dynamic with many
un-anticipated changes. Deriving solutions in close partnership with
the line of business and being 'quick-on-one's-feet' is a needed trait
for this position.

• Versatility is key measure to the success of this position.
Demonstrable versatility between flavors of UNIX/Linux mentioned above
will be a plus.
Additionally, candidates with versatility in the areas of Storage
Management, Performance Management (or) Database management will
succeed in this position.

• The candidate must demonstrate the ability to understand the
business and the application. Candidates who have done work
engineering solutions for the business will be successful in this
position.

Skill Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience administering, monitoring and
managing Solaris and Red-HAT environments.

• 6+ years of experience troubleshooting and tuning Linux systems down
to the kernel level.

• At least 3-5 years of experience with performance management using
tools such as BMC Patrol & Enterprise Performance Assurance. Capacity
planning skills with be a plus.

• Over 7 years of experience automating activities using Perl and
Shell scripting is a necessity.

• Demonstrable experience with the administration or setup of
Oracle/Sybase is a plus.

• Demonstrable experience administering, setting-up or participating
in initiatives with application servers such as JBoss, WebLogic and
WebSphere is a plus.

• Demonstrable skills writing best-practice documentation and solution
documents are a necessity.

• Demonstrable leadership skills such as managing time, managing
meetings and verbal communication skills are a must.
