JOB DESCRIPTION

This document is used to provide a basic description of essential duties
and other work elements.

Purpose of Position/Summary:
A Senior Data Warehouse Architect serves to develop the data warehouse for
internal and external use by the department that increase access, improve
efficiency and accuracy, and reduce overall cost. This employee will be
experienced in handling a wide variety of programming tasks and will need
to be able to work independently with little supervision.  This person
works together as part of a programming team to complete tasks with
business analysts, project managers, and the application owners.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Employee works in information technology under general supervision
performing application development duties.  Employee typically reports to
the Director of Application Development.

Representative duties include:
•     Develops, manages, and updates data models, including physical and
logical models of the data warehouse, data mart(s), development and staging
areas, and source systems (as necessary) to meet new and changing business
requirements and align to the needs of the Indiana SLD system.
•    Manage and oversee the target database schema design.
•    Manage the deployment of solutions delivered by multiple teams in
parallel.
•    Work with stakeholders/users to define the business and functional
application; review and integrate all application requirements (including
functional, security, integration, performance, quality, and operations
requirements).
•    Designs, develops and deploys data cubes for accessing warehouse data.
•    Serves as Subject Matter Expert in data modeling concepts (star
schema, snowflake schemas, normalized & de-normalized data models).
•    Coordinates new data development, ensuring consistency and integration
with existing data warehouse structure.
•    Develops processes for capturing and maintaining metadata from all
data warehousing components; generate data dictionary from metadata for
Indiana SLD project.
•    Analyzes performance statistics and recommends improvements.
•    Responsible for database administration activities such as translate
the logical database design into a physically implementable design.
•    Creating the databases and database objects from standards such as the
tables, table spaces, synonyms, views, stored procedures and indexes.
•    Assists to maintain reliable and quality of delivered systems, which
includes production support and enhancements for current and future project
requirements. Continues to work to stabilize the system and reduces error
rates in an effective and timely manner. Reviews and validates data loaded
into the data warehouse for accuracy.
•    Provides technical guidance and direction in defining the
project/system level information technology and data architecture strategy.
Ensures consistent use of information architecture standards.
•    Coordinates and supports development efforts of technical and
corporate staffs with SQL tuning efforts as well as ongoing application
implementation, support and upgrades. Assists in resolution of complex
application, database, application server, network, and web server issues.

Job Requirements:
• Bachelors degree in computer technology or four (4) years computer
programming experience;
• Advanced knowledge of information systems design principles;
• Working knowledge of new systems design techniques;
• Advanced knowledge of data warehousing techniques and tools;
• Advanced knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques
used for data warehouse development;
• Ability to perform problem solving analytical analysis;
• Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC);
• Advanced knowledge of information technology equipment, operation, and
capabilities;
• Working knowledge of the most recent advancement of information
technology equipment, operation capabilities;
• Have technical knowledge to design, build, and maintain routine and
complex computer programs;
 • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
