| Duties & Responsibilites : | - Provide high quality reporting solutions that address business needs by developing and supporting applications within the mature technology and leading edge technology environments.
- Adhere to coding standards, procedures and techniques and contribute to the technical code documentation.
- Perform unit and system testing; participate in application support and enhancement activities; provide Knowledge transfer to internal associates.
• Participate in project planning sessions with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Technical Analysts and development team members to analyze business / technology requirements and outline the proposed technology solution.
• Involved in the full software development life cycle from scoping, analysis, design, implementation, and quality assurance to delivery and support.
• Provide and participate in project estimating activities and design reviews.
• Collaborate with clients in interpreting requirements, providing iterative demo/presentations during development and support User Testing.
• Collaborate with development team and other areas like IT and Infrastructure.
• Review functional requirements and technical specifications and document them as needed.
• Document developed work and provide adequate Knowledge Transfer to internal associates.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure that all solutions are aligned to pre-defined architectural specifications.
• Create test prototypes and mock-ups.
• Architect, design and develop Cognos reports (cubes, dashboards, reports, drill-through, etc) according to user requirements.
• Design and develop any data transformation processes for reports that require aggregations or any activity requiring background processing.
• Complete assigned project deliverables within business / audit control requirements.
• Perform unit, system and integration testing and provide UAT/Production support as needed.
• Train and support Cognos end users.
• Adhere to security and control policies throughout design, development and testing.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve reporting issues and code defects.
• Understand and execute release management and change management processes for changes to reporting applications.
• Provide off hours support as required.
Technical Skills Required:
• A strong architectural background with Databases and Reporting.
• 5+ experience with Cognos 8.4/10 such as Framework Manager, Cube Development, Report Studio and Analysis Studio
• Experience in SAS is a plus.
• 5+ experience with databases specifically Oracle and writing sql.
• Strong background with Data Warehouse and Data Marts.
• Experience with ETL like Informatica, SSIS, etc is a plus
• Experience with scripting languages like _vbscript_, Unix, perl, etc.
• Knowledge of BI/Data Warehouse concepts, including star schema
• Experience with formal software development processes and methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile, RUP, SCRUM, or MSF
Non-Technical Skills Required:
• Self-motivated and can effectively manage tasks from start to finish.
• Ability to collaborate on a team with infrastructure, data warehouse and business analyst resources, and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical team members.
• Excellent communication skills as the candidate will need to be able to understand and communicate clearly design and requirements to reporting analysts, other architects, and departments.
• Ability to learn quickly as the candidate needs to explore our current environment and contribute immediately.
• Excellent team player as the candidate needs to be able to work with multiple associates with different technical backgrounds, listen to associate input, and collaborate effectively across the organization like Information Management, among others.
• Ability to multi-task as the candidate will be working on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to develop/design solutions in way that thinks of the big picture to make it flexible and extensible. The solution should not be one-off. Candidate should think ahead so it can be re-usable or leveraged by other reports/users.
• Follows standards and best practices and can be a significant contributor to this.
• Telecom experience is a plus.
