*Job title: *SQL Server DBA *Location:* Cedar Rapids, Iowa *Duration*: 6+ Months *Job Description*: *Qualifications:* Perform duties of a Senior Database Administrator of Microsoft SQL Server Provide installation, maintenance, monitoring and support for Microsoft SQL Server Implementation and support of application requested database development changes in the Microsoft SQL Server and Windows environments Support of production systems for database problem resolution and recovery, as well as assistance with production applications Specification and development of systems for capturing and tracking database performance metrics, database and application performance monitoring, evaluation and recommendations Evaluation and recommendation of data base-related software products within technical architecture framework Development and implementation of backup/restore, disaster recovery and data replication procedures. *Preferred Qualifications:* DBA certification in SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012 preferred, as well as knowledge of other database platforms including Oracle and DB2. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Evaluation, creativity, ingenuity and strong troubleshooting skills required. Ability to lead complex database infrastructure projects. *Responsibilities:* Analyzes database requirements of the user department, applications programming and operations. Submits recommendations for solutions that require definition of the physical structure and functional capabilities of databases and require data security and data backup/recovery specifications. Proposes detailed specifications and flowcharts and coordinates installation of revised or new database systems. Creates schemas and sub-schemas in consultation with application project team. Sets up and performs backup and recovery procedures. Works with Data Administrator, or appropriate staff, to identify and transform business requirements into logical data models. Converts logical data models into physical databases. Performs monitoring and tuning for performance. Analyzes results in order to implement enhancements to the system. Performs monitoring and tuning for storage management. Analyzes results in order to plan for capacity in the future. Develops transaction logging and security features. Understands and uses normalization methods and design methodologies. Provides database assistance and problem support to application developers, business analysts and business users. Conducts research and prepares recommendations for database tools, software, or hardware requirements. Extensive knowledge of multiple relevant operating systems.
