SYSTEM ENGINEER

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Systems Engineer Position is part of the Office of the Chancellor
technical team, and will report to the Microsoft Platform Technical Lead.
The successful candidate will work with other Microsoft Platform support
personnel to manage enterprise systems including Active Directory, Windows
2003/2008 file and print, Web Servers, Microsoft Exchange, System Center
Operations Manager, System Center Configuration Manager and Microsoft SQL,
in addition to working closely with other enterprise technology teams,
campus IT, and technical consultant staffs that integrate with the Active
Directory and Executive Information Systems.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

•        Works closely with staff and technical consultants on the Active
Directory / Exchange project throughout development, implementation, and
ongoing support to provide a secure and stable foundation for other
enterprise applications.

•        Assists in the administration, rollout, and support of a
distributed Active Directory and delegated management environment.

•        Performs systems management activities including daily monitoring,
enhancements, and installation of new enterprise systems.

•        Provides on-call 24 x 7 / Tier 3 support for critical Active
Directory and Exchange issues as escalated through the universities
participating in the Active Directory.

•        Assists with documentation, testing, and management of the
integration of universities into the enterprise Active Directory structure.

•        Works with staff and vendors to follow proactive system
monitoring/maintenance policies and procedures to maintain system
availability.

•        Works alongside staff and vendors during system outages in an
effort to prevent data loss and minimize outage time.

•        Works with Data Security Team to ensure that industry standard
“best practices” are followed on all Microsoft platform systems as they
relate to security and auditing.

•        Meets with supervisor and peers on a regular basis to discuss
status reports, project timelines, and deliverables.

•        Works closely with supervisor to install, support, and maintain
Microsoft systems related to the support of the enterprise Active Directory,
Exchange, and all systems that leverage these platforms, including but not
limited to SAP, LMS and LCMS.

•        Assists in ensuring that adequate documentation is prepared for all
technical tasks performed by Office of the Chancellor staff or distributed
to remote support staff and university technology administrators.

•        Windows scripting / programming to automate daily tasks and mundane
procedures.

•        Works closely with designated analysts specializing in system
backups to maintain and enhance system backup, recovery, and disaster
recovery.

•        Supports Help Desk with level 3 troubleshooting and issue
resolution.



QUALIFICATION

Bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of education, professional level
Microsoft support experience, and relevant certifications are required. A
minimum of 7 years demonstrable IT integration experience is essential.





Required Skills and Abilities

•        Experience implementing the consolidation of diverse environments
into a centralized Microsoft platform

•        Detailed working knowledge of MS Active Directory

•        Detailed working knowledge of MS Exchange.

•        Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager

•        Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager

•        VMware vSphere

•        Microsoft SharePoint Server

•        Knowledge of implementing and maintaining “high availability”
system solutions.

•        Ability to clearly document ‘how-to’ guides, process documents, and
best practices to share with universities.

•        Visual Basic.NET development experience.

•        Experience with load testing, capacity planning, and sizing of
hardware.

•        Experience with implementing large migration processes with
distributed resource pools.

•        Experience with distributed Active Directory deployments through
mixed networks and across disparate firewalls.

•        Current professional certifications related to Microsoft Active
Directory and Microsoft

•        Exchange.
