* * *Linux System Administrator** Location: Chicago, IL* *Duration: 6+ Months* * * *Job Description: * Position will be responsible for support Linux (both Redhat and Suse) plus support of Solaris and AIX systems. The candidate will be responsible for providing ongoing software installs, upgrades and maintenance to those systems. The position requires strong scripting skills using shell script, perl, and other languages. Familiarity with Clustering, RPM Installation/Removal, Linux KickStart Configuration are desired. Prior experience using Cobbler and Puppet essential. · *Experience configuring and trouble shooting a variety of clustering software configurations including Veritas and Redhat clustering is highly desireable. * · *Solid understanding of UNIX-based operating systems, Solaris and Red hat; understands boot process and run levels, paging and swapping, inter-process communication, functions of devices and device drivers and file system concepts. Will require some email configuration, NIS and LDAP administration and managing daily operations.* · Candidate should have practical experience using a variety of server virtualization products like *Xen, Virtual Box, and VMware*. Knowledge of cloud computing techniques and products is useful. · The position will be required to support systems off-hours on a as needed basis. A strong set of diagnostic skills for both hardware and software is necessary. · Candidate should possess a strong background in Performance and tuning, with a working knowledge of I/O subsystems and array operations. The position will require interface with DBA’s and outside vendors. · Responsible for managing projects related to new Linux infrastructure design/build-out/deployments, improving Linux/Solaris server performance and availability, implementing new server monitoring and tuning technologies and complex troubleshooting and problem resolution of major server issues. · Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, interacting positively with management, and solid planning skills.
