This is a 6 month contract for a SQL Server DBA/Developer.  This position
requires 50% DBA and 50% development work.  The position requires on-call
rotation every 5 weeks.

*Must have Skills include:*

SQL Server 2000/2005 Administration

DTS/SSIS experience

T-SQL

Install binaries from start to finish and do the configuration

Create databases after the modeling, including tables/views/stored
procedures

Backup and recovery

Perform Log Shipping à *Must have!*

Upgrade Databases from 2000 to new versions.  Any experience with SQL Server
2008 is a plus but not required.

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, confers with appropriate managers regarding
problems and capabilities of databases.  Controls activities related to
day-to-day maintenance such as creating and ensuring backup availability,
index maintenance, tuning and performance monitoring, and providing
application database administrative support.

  Summary of Responsibilities:

          Provide SQL Server DBA support and technical support for multiple
applications in development, test, QA and production environments.

   - Perform system optimization and improvement planning including but not
   limited to SQL Server database performance analysis, capacity planning,
   system sizing and ongoing maintenance/tuning ensuring maximum performance.
   - Install, configure and maintain database instances, create various
   database objects, create users with appropriate roles and levels of
   security.
   - Develop and implement procedures to ensure data retention meets
   requirements.
   - Troubleshoot and document database problems as they arise.
   - Participate in defining and supporting high availability architectures,
   including log shipping and clustering.
   - Review and give technical advice concerning databases including
   resource estimates for statements of work.
   - Perform project tasks to ensure that associated deliverables are
   completed on time and within quality tolerance.
   - Create disaster recovery plans, participate in the design of emergency
   procedures and lead in disaster recovery for assigned applications.
   - Develop and communicate SQL Server database standards and procedures.
   - Identify potential environment consolidation opportunities.
   - Create and update existing documentation as necessary for business
   continuity and knowledge transfer
   - Participate in on-call responsibilities.
   - Serve as a mentor/trainer for a DBA I and/or DBA II.

 Requirements:

   - Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or related field plus 5-8 years of
   experience.  Additional experience substitutes for degree.
   - Demonstrate understanding of advanced DBMS concepts/vocabulary.
   - Expert in SQL Server 2000 and client tools, including, but not limited
   to Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer and Profiler.
   - Experience using SQL Server 2005.
   - Must have high availability experience, specifically log shipping.
   - Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
   - Excellent problem solving skills.
   - Comprehend instructions and complete tasks as directed.
   - Adheres to accepted standards and procedures.
   - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
