Cognos Planning Specialist (Contributor/Analyst Apps)
Description:
The Cognos Planning Specialist analyzes requirements and designs, develops,
tests, installs and maintains application systems, programs, functions,
services and other related software components in response to enterprise
needs of high complexity. Have responsibilities for production support of
and maintenance of existing Business Intelligence solutions. The incumbent
will maintain expert knowledge of integration with related source systems.
This individual will fully accommodate the customer's business needs,
resolve conflicting user demands and maintain positive customer relations
with strong communication and coordination. Management of large projects,
including developing project plans, and tracking progress by multiple
resources, to ensure completion of projects on time and on budget. The
incumbent should have established areas of subject matter expertise and be
able to communicate technical concepts into non-technical terms when working
with non-technical constituents.
Contributor administration - Updating structure and objects, either manually
or in automated fashion, Access table maintenance and best practices/uses,
Loading data from any type of data source, Ability to efficiently move data
in between contributor applications, Moving data between analyst and
contributor, Diagnose and resolving data load and source file issues,
Diagnose and resolving reconcile issues, Running and monitoring macros
and/or parts of macros, Creating macros and admin links, Understanding the
format and layout of published Contributor data
Analyst administration - Backing up an analyst library, Running analyst
macros, Publishing data from Analyst, Performing deployments in 8.4,
Applications, Security
Data analysis - Ability to quickly understand the impact to structure and
dimension changes in a model to:
Other models
Reports
Data sources and interfaces
Automated processes
Ability to follow and trace data, data links, and business logic in and
between complex models
Responsibilities and other skills:

Deep Excel, VBA, and MS Access
Using/build ETL processes to format and transform data
Requirements:
Requirements:
SQL - writing complex SQL queries from Cognos Planning published data
sources
2-3 years of proven experience with Cognos Planning - with the contributor
and analyst applications - administration utilizing proven practices is an
absolute minimum
Proven success supporting end-users in a high volume environment
Success supporting a financial close or budget/forecasting process
Building tables and/or reporting/querying Cognos Planning publish data
sources
Independent administration of Contributor and Analyst-only models in the
area of:
Revenue
P&L
Cash flow
Balance sheet
Direct expense
Allocation / chargeback
