SL6 maybe does not support your wireless device. Have you tried SL7 instead?
SL7 normally supports more recent hardware than the older SL6.

It's not clear to me that the ups is at fault. There is no indication
on the front panel that anything is wrong with it except for the
multiple on-battery/on-line messages a day. I have other upses from apc
and they don't do this except very occasionally.
