Hi,
Has anyone considered using secure ftp, sftp. It is much more secure
and readily available. Just like SSH secure shell.

Hi,
I wholeheartedly support such a move. These long threads have no
basis in reality. Frankly they have as much purpose as counting the
number of angels on the head of a pin. Quite some time ago, as a
scientist I stopped at SL 6.9. If need be I have all of my code
development tools, and am
Hi,
Have you considered just doing a tar on the /home directory on a
periodic basis, and just copy the tar file to a backup drive. Simple and
easy.

Could the two of you please take this discussion off line.
This used to be a forum where people provided technical solutions to
pressing problems. You obviously do not have a day job that requires
your attention and are filling up peoples in boxes with your personal
banter.

Hi,
Thank you for the note. As a long time user of Scientific Linux, I
have continued to use SL 6.10; as of my latest update. I really do not
want to deal with systemd, Gnome3, and many such things. Have used Unix
and Linux for more years than many on this list have been able to spell
Unix.
Hi,
There are many books and in this day and age you can find much on line.
To really be helpful you need to provide some information as to what
are your needs. From my perspective I would suggest that you need some
knowledge in the following areas.
*. Most people gain some knowledge of Shell
options page that will email your current password to you.

Hi,
I understand your frustration. You should know that power management
and the ability to put your laptop to sleep, or perchance to put it into
hibernation mode, has been a major problem under Linux. For many years
many of us just gave up. I go back about a dozen years, when I fist
started
machine, and see if the problem goes away. I believe
that it will. Look at the man pages for VNC and see which port(s) to
open in the IPtables config. Hope this helps.
