As far as I remember kernel-module-firewire was never included in official SL.
Maybe I put it once
on a LiveCD.
Do you need firewire support on this hardware? If not I would just uninstall
all firewire related rpms.
rpm -qa | grep firewire
rpm -e .. .. ..
Afterwards, yum update should wor
How do you have the sata devices defined in the BIOS?
Try changing it to IDE or something similar and then booting with
linux all-generic-ide
You can also try
linux noapic
