We had many hungs with SL5 as server but with kerberos auth, never tried NFS4

Don't ask me how long I searched for it. Just bad that virt-manager do not use
this as default für Windows VM's. Also this is very different behavior than SL 5
and KVM.

if you use xen VM's as service keep off from rgmanager-2.0.52
It has trouble seeing running vm's and restarts them on more than one node!

I have installed nss_ldap-253-13.el5_2.1.i386 from sl-fastbugs and set
ssl off (/etc/ldap.conf).
I tested with bind_policy hard (/etc/ldap.conf) and the server still
tries to connect to an ldap server before either interface lo or eth0
are up.
I am looking at /etc/udev/rules.d/
It sounds like RHEL is doing something about the NFS lockd problem.

it on every desktop, they just use the shared storage.
