Graphics issues in SL6.5/Mathematica

2014-07-07 Thread Niels Walet
I seem to have developped some problems with mathematica on one of my boxes; there is potentially an xorg issue. The graphics card is an [AMD/ATI] RV730 XT [Radeon HD 4670]. The issue cropped up recently: If I type \[UpArrow] and hit return, the uparrow is not displayed in the output (it is in

2012-03-12 Thread Niels Walet
I have been trying to use firefox 10 in SL6.2 (from SL6x-fastbugs). I seem to be running into the zotero issue discussed on ubuntu: A crash when using zotero, which was linked to a compiler bug (http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/21716/solved-zotero-crashes-firefox-10-on-linux/). Can anyone confi

Firefox hanging (and thunderbird and ...)

2011-11-26 Thread Niels Walet
Just had a lovely couple of hours tracing a problem where firefox would hang very quickly after start-up; even right clicking on a menu item made it hang. I had missed the fact that the speaker symbol was absent in the task bar (volume on my speakers was off anyway), but finally managed to trace th

2011-06-07 Thread Niels Walet
I note that the boost libraries provided in SL6 do not provide bjam and related development tools in any standard rpm. I note that the same release version of the fc13 boost does provide this--does anyone know the reason for this? Niels

Quite a few-firefox can be a pain... 1- Usually, the issue is with a setting/plugin 2- Run as another user 3- Try firefox -safemode (which disables most of the plugins/extensions) If 2 and 3 work, you may want to disable all extensions and test one by o ne. Niels

I disagree; it works fine on our machines. The only niggle is that you need to uninstall 64 bits java and reinstall 32 bits (since the 64 bits install seems to overwrite the 32 bit one in part s). That also means everything that depends on it, which can be painful. I also have modified the /usr/bi

Many memory leaks that look like x11 are just leaks of programs using x; what you should test is running the system for a few days with X on but o nly a login screen! I do support changing the idea of replacing the graphics driver if the er ror persists. Niels
