I am trying to configure my SL 5.5 system for smart card authentication.
I believe I have installed all the required software packages for
reading smart cards, but something still seems to be missing. I am
using a Dell keyboard with a built in card reader, and when I insert my
card I get these mes
Bonnie,
That what I needed! I typically use 'Yum extended' for my package
management, so have become deficient with the command line. I had the
x86_64 adobe repository enabled, but had to tell Yum specifically what I
wanted. Thanks again.

Thanks for the advice. Removing 'nspluginwrapper' looks like it fixed
the problem. The seqfaults seemed to be unique to the Google website,
and now Google is working. I assume SL installs the proper plugins as
part of Yum updates, so hopefully I have everything I need.

I just installed SL 6.2 on a new workstation and am tailoring it for my

I know this is a subject that has been beat to death in Linux forums for

I intend to install SL 6.3 on it, and will eventually need to connect to

Hello,
I need smard card access (DOD CAC) from my SL 5.5 system. I have a Dell
USB smart card keyboard, but when I insert my card it isn't detected. I
assume this means I need to install smart card support, and I have seen
documentation that is is available. If so, what is the package name and

I did 'yum downgrades' of ImageMagick.i386 and ImageMagick.x86_64, and
this corrected the problem. Has this happened to anyone else? Who else

Scientific Linux Users:
I have 2 SL 64 bit systems, one running SL 6.1, the other 5.5. I want
to install Wine on each. I found a reference for 6.1 that advised
installing the epel-release repository, from which Wine could be
installed. I did this with Yum and as promised, was then able to do a
I am running SL 5.5 using the Evolution mail client in the KDE desktop.
Like many others, I am having trouble finding a way to edit the

Is there a SL YUM repository containing the xdiff utility?

Problem solved. I had to install the 'gnome-control-center' and change
the browser to firefox in 'preferred applications'. A new solution to
an old problem.

Just to amplify on my confusion, in the past I was able to do this in
