Hi Eduardo,
Try running kernel-hugemem instead of the normal kernel, I recently
had similar problems to you which were fixed by running
kernel-hugemem.
I upgraded the RAM in a machine from 2gb to 4gb and it ran really
slowly with the normal kernel, but fine with kernel-hugemem
yu
piled with the option "kernel. Config support".
This leads me to another help request. Someone know how I can get the
.config of default and hugemem kernel? to study the differences?
Thank you now.

install the hugemem and the problem disappeared. The wa indices in top
fell to acceptable levels and the machine is having a better performance
but still well lower running the gentoo livecd. As
I install slc45 and use the hugemem kernel.
But afs client didn't work. I can look the directory and file, But when
i open the file, the content of the file is incorrect, and can not copy
file out of afs directory.
Sorry put the problem here.

I'm afraid the client for the hugemem kernel is not very well tested,
but let's see.
