Voyager got caught in the crossfire between the Borg and Species 8472. Species 8472 made their presence known by taking out several Borg Cubes. Voyager formed a temporary alliance with the Borg because they considered them the lesser of two evils. This was also they storyline where 7 of 9 was introduced.
